Scoots Disc Golf-O-Rama

Sunday, July 16, 2006

While in Santa Cruz yesterday, I picked up this Limited Edition Crystal Buzzz (173-178 grams). So far, it seems faster and straighter than my "Eye-Roc", and as such I am less able to turn it (I am not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing). These discs were selling like hot cakes at the van and so I figured if I ended up not liking it, someone else would probably be willing to buy it from me.

As of now it is in the bag and I have been using it on #4, and #7... although I can't seem to get it all the way to the pins, but I have a feeling I will soon. :D

Played Santa Cruz

I got a chance to play Santa Cruz today, as it was my nephew's birthday and I shot a +14. I had a lot of pars, but no birdies, so I did not have any chance to make up the shots I lost. It was a great day, although there was a ton of people there so I ended up jumping around a bit (which didn't help my score any as I was always rushing). Anyway - I love that course and I will take any chance I can get to play it.

Also I met someone who might be able to make me a logo for the Moraga Disc Golf Course/Club! I will be talking to her more next week - so stay tuned.

Course Work...

I spent a few hours cutting down logs on hole #7, and also working on a few other holes at the Moraga Disc Golf Course. I went there around 11:00 am and cut down some low limbs, and also nailed in some loose boards on the #4 tee. After that I cut off a lot of the dead tree on the 7th tee, to open it up and allow for more access to that area. I also moved and made a new bench on the opposite side of the tee box (in the shade) as a trial, since that is what I feel is the best spot for a more permanent bench once the club has a bit more money. It will be interesting to see what people have to say about it.

Another bag-tag round

I managed to hold onto my tag again tonight, as I played with Ron, Matt, Craig and Brian. Jeff and Chase started out with us and then left to have dinner after five holes. I managed to play ok enough and ended at +2. Brian kept his #1 plate, with a -5, Ron stayed at #2 with -2, and Matt played par.

I had been practicing at the Saint Mary's field, and was figured I would play a quick nine holes before heading home for dinner, but I showed up when everyone was starting and so figured I would join in. I played the front nine in par, but on the second nine I had a couple of bogeys that lead me to the +2 finish. Brant caught up to us later in the round, but he had not been playing and so was able to keep his #3 tag without having to put it on the line.

Best at Santa Cruz

I shot my best round ever at Santa Cruz (+10)! It was a very nice day, not too hot or cold. I warmed up a little and seemed to be putting better, so off I went. I hooked up with Jason (a local AM1 player) and made par on the first hole (which was good as I have been starting off with bogey or worse lately on one). I played the first 4 well, as my up shots seemed to be on after practicing them yesterday. I had a great tee shot on #5 and was a drop-in birdie. On #6, I was saved by my upshot and then my play was a little off from #7-#9 as I bogeyed each hole. I parred #10 and #11 (my nemesis) on a three great shots (as the pin was way in back left).

On #12, which was in a new position and far left, I had a ton of tree trouble and ended up with a six. If I could have just shot par or bogey my score would have been even better than (+10)... oh well. I almost hit chains on #17 down the hill, but missed the 20' putt coming back - rats! After that I seemed to hang on and just play steady golf and parred the remaining. The one exception was an awesome putt on hole #24, where I had to putt under a tree and made it from a good 15' to 20' feet. A pretty good afternoon of golf, if I say so myself.

As I left, I got a new shammy (for cleaning dust off your discs) from the van and headed to the BBQ at Aaron and Pam's.
