PDGA #29534

I signed up and recieved the PDGA# 29534. I needed this to play in tournaments in the future and plus the money goes to helping the sport grow... all good things. I am not sure where I will play first, but know I would like to play in Santa Cruz eventually.

There are a number of items you get as a new member of the PDGA, but those take a few weeks to arrive. I am curious to see what all I get... Stay tuned.

More putters...

The mail brought me 3 more practice putters (all 170-172 grams). I now have 5 Discraft Banger-GT putters of the same weight (not counting the one Nate Doss signed). Putting is the most important aspect of disc golf and I am looking forward to becoming a better putter! Practice makes perfect and these new discs will make it easier to practice.

New TL

I added a new disc to the bag today, a Star plastic TL (or Teebird Long) 168 grams. I really wanted a TeeRex (which is coming out soon) but in the mean time I think this disc will be a good driver on shorter holes. Now if it would only stop raining long enough for me to use it.

Bragging rights!

I played a couple of rounds at Moraga with Greg for bragging rights, and as expected he got the better of me. It was close, and we both missed some easy putts, but in the end Greg had some great shots to take the 18 hole challenge. He made this crazy long upshot from the cement path on #9 for a birdie that was amazing.

I did manage to sneak in a quick "pig" putting victory while waiting on #2. I got on a roll and was putting everything in - I couldn't missed it seemed. Greg got me back before we left though so what goes around, comes around.

I also got the mini-bragging rights by capturing the last 9 hole round.

It was a great afternoon, as we both played well and went back and forth a lot during the rounds. The weather was perfect, although the ground was still very wet from the recent rain.

Played Napa

Went to Napa today with Gregg, Greg (Tiger Woods), Dustin and Dave. It was a great day for golf, as it was sunny and not too hot. The course was a bit wet, having rained a lot in the last week, but it was not too muddy all things considered. Plus the pins had been moved to make it a more fair layout in my opinion.

The picture above is of Gregg driving on 18 of our first round, with Greg and Dustin in the background.

I played better on the first round (shooting 12 over), but on the second round with a whole buck on the line, I got tired and folded like a cheap deck of cards. Greg (aka Tiger Woods) started off poorly, but caught FIRE the second round and ended up taking the cash with a even par round (+4 front/-4 back - NICE!!). Gregg L. was his usual steady self and shot rounds of +4 and +5. Dustin started strong tying Gregg with a +4, but faded on the second round to a "too-high-to-name" score... heehee. Dave played ok, and beat me by shooting a +18 on the second round.

Overall, it was a great day and I hope to be able to play better there the more I play.

Round One
4, 3, 4, 3, 4, 5, 4, 4, 6 = +10
3, 2, 4, 3, 3, 4, 3, 3, 4 = +2

Almost an ACE!

I played a few rounds today with Dustin (and then Brian joined us) and I almost got my first ace.

We were on hole #4 at Moraga, and there was a large crowd of people waiting to play. We asked to play through or with, and as no one else was ready I stepped to the tee... I threw my Star SL, and it went staright out toward hole #5 tee, then as it finally slowed down the fade took over and it headed back toward the basket. I was hard to tell exactly where it was headed, but it looked like it would be on the green... when BAM it hit of the top of the lower basket and dropped right there! WOW!! Everyone was super excited and I can't help but wish it would have just been 3-4 inches higher, it would have been in for sure.

As luck would have it, on our next trip around the course, Dustin did almost the same thing. He went first off the tee, and hit the chains on #4. It bounched out and to the right, but it was no less amazing!! I can't beleive we both had such close ace shots. I now know how Greg R. feels... so close and yet so far!! It sure was a lot of fun none-the-less!!

Finder of lost discs

As usual, I went to Santa Cruz today to play basketball, but as it was raining I did not play disc golf. None-the-less I went to the course to see if I could find Dustin's lost disc, and sure enough I did!! He will be surprised to see it, as he had given up his favorite disc for gone...

This marks my sixth disc I have returned to its rightful owner. I am happy to be able to reunite owner/disc and hope that if I lose a disc sometime, someone will do the same for me.

Windy day

I played a windy round with Dustin at Moraga. It was not nearly as muddy as I had expected (given the large amount rain we have had recently). I played with my second set of discs as my main set was in my car (which my wife had). Windy conditions certainly do make putting more challenging and so my score was higher than normal.

Round 1
3, 3, 3, 3, 4, 5, 4, 3, 3 = +4
3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 3, 4, 3 = +5 Total +9

Still it was good to get out there and throw.
